How music boosts language development in young children

Date: 26/08/2025

Mini Lingos is passionate about making its musical Spanish classes for the under-fives fun, colourful, and enjoyable. Of course, we want to see loads of laughter, smiles and dancing feet, but we also want to ensure our classes are beneficial and meaningful too.

Our musical Spanish classes for nursery children combine familiar nursery rhymes and catchy children's songs with energetic, upbeat music blended in English and Spanish, creating the perfect environment to supercharge your little one's language development.

But how exactly does music help little ones with language development?

Music and language are like best friends. They share the same parts of the brain. When children hear, sing, or move to music, they are not only having fun, but activating the same neural pathways they use to understand and speak language. So when we mix music with Spanish in our MiniLingos classes, we are helping young children to pick up new sounds, patterns, and vocabulary faster in a natural and truly enjoyable way.

Did you know that babies as young as 27 weeks can recognise musical tones and even before they are born, they are even tuning in?

Babies and toddlers are especially sensitive to the rhythm, intonation, and patterns of music, which is why we encourage families to keep the music going outside of our nursery classes. The more your child hears, the stronger their foundation for language development becomes.

We love to make our own music during our Mini Lingos classes too.

From concentration to memory, playing musical instruments also creates a range of skills crucial for communication. Whether we're shaking maracas, drumming our hands on the floor, or clapping in rhythm, we're also helping little ones to feel confident and creative, improving coordination and boosting all those all-important happy hormones “dopamine”.

Learning additional languages, such as Spanish, can have even further benefits for little ones. Research shows that children who learn additional languages from a young age are more creative and better at solving complex problems, which is why we feel so passionate about our classes at Mini Lingos.

We believe music should be part of every child's day, not just during our nursery classes, but outside of nursery environment too. Sing in the car, make up silly songs at bath time, tap out rhythms on the kitchen table. The more you play with language and sound, the more your child will grow.

We're currently recruiting franchisees who want to run their own Mini Lingos business.
